One-Shadow Eye Look featuring L’Oreal Infallible Eye Shadow in “Amber Rush”

L'Oreal-Infallible-in-Amber-Rush

Every so often, I stumble across a shade so beautiful that it can be worn on its own for a minimal makeup look that still packs a punch.

I love those shades. MAC’s “Patina” is one for me – just the right a mount of eye-brightening and subtlety.

L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in “Amber Rush” is one such shade – and it’s so gorgeous that I just had to share. Read more!

How to Add Some Oomph to Your Deep Conditioner

Conditioner

Necessity combined with interest to create this DIY.

Curly hair is the driest, brittlest, and most fragile hair type. That’s because the shape of the curls doesn’t let natural oil from the scalp moisturize the whole strand. As a result, curlies have to up the hydration in their products to compensate. Deep conditioning is a great way to do that.

Also, I’ve been dabbling in the world of DIY beauty products. It’s fun and exciting to mix up your own creations, and then you know exactly what goes into them.

I thought I’d try a variation on the typical DIY hair mask recipe – you know, banana, avocado, egg, olive oil, mayo. I thought I’d try using my favourite deep conditioner as a base, and then adding some of those weird things to it. Read more!

Biore Self-Heating One-Minute Mask with Natural Charcoal

Biore Warming Mask

Do you ever give into advertising?

I, like most modern consumers, like to think that I am impervious to even the most enticing, Don Draperian ad campaign. Deep down, I know that’s not true, and that Don Draper would probably prefer to have the consumer think that she’s making her own decisions.

This time, friends, I am 100% willing to admit that I was influenced by a pretty cool ad.

Origins GinZing Duo

Origins GinZing Eye Cream and Moisturizer

Some products are such an integral part of my routine that I simply overlook them and don’t mention them.

Origins GinZing Moisturizer and Eye Cream* are such products.

The basic premise behind both products is simple: brightening. Dark spots , dark circles, and general dullness are my major skincare concerns, and these products are designed to address that.

DIY Whipped Shea Body Butter

Finished DIY Whipped Shea

Although I love my Body Shop Body Butters, sometimes I feel like using something less fragrant to moisturize my body – so it won’t compete with my perfume, or because of headaches, or just because.

Shea butter is an amazing moisturizer. It’s thick and rich and leaves skin so soft and hydrated. However, natural shea butter is quite expensive, and so thick and, well, buttery that it’s difficult to spread.

So I thought I’d try out and modify a recipe I saw from ShamelessMaya and HeyFranHey on YouTube.

Closeup DIY Whipped Shea

The result is a fluffy, spreadable, whipped confection that smells lightly of coconuts and is incredibly hydrating. Aw yes. Read on to learn how to make your own!

Review: Maybelline ColorShow The Nudes Collection Nail Polish in ‘Warm Me Up’

Maybelline The Nudes Collection Polish in Warm Me Up

We all know I’m crazy about nude nail polish. When I’m not sure what to wear, it’s what I reach for. It’s super versatile, makes nails look clean and tidy, and goes with any outfit you could dream up. It’s an especially nice alternative to pastels for Spring if it ever comes.

I suppose that’s why Maybelline released their The Nudes Collection for Spring. It features new nude shades of their famous Colour Tattoo cream eyeshadows, cream blushes, and – most exciting in my opinion – nail polish. Read more!

Review: Real Techniques Buffing Brush

Real Techniques Buffing Brush

Real Techniques is yet another brand released by a beauty blogger that has taken the beauty world by storm. Sam and Nic Chapman of Pixiwoo are responsible for these brushes. As I peek over at my makeup brush jars, I realize that I have quite a few of them in my collection and that they figure quite prominently into my daily makeup routine.

And it’s no wonder why. They average at about $10 per brush. When you consider that a MAC brush – formerly considered the brush be-and-end-all – will cost you at least $20, Real Techniques is a bargain. Read more!

Soap & Glory A Great Kisser Lip Balm in “Vanilla Bean”

Soap & Glory A Great Kisser lip balm

I’m a bit of a sucker for a nice tinted lip balm. Soap & Glory cosmetics rarely disappoint, so when I saw this I snapped it up. That and I kind of love vanilla. Read more!

Review: Formula X for Sephora Sticky Base Coat

Sephora Formula X Base Coat

Apparently, sticky base coats are where it’s at.

A few brands make them – there’s Orly Bonder (and the Quo/Orly collab version), CND Stickey – they seem to garner quite the cult following.

My Butter London base coat was on its last legs – it was getting hard to spread, and even polish thinner couldn’t save it. I had had quite a nice experience with Formula X’s “Curiosity” – it’s since become my go-to red. I was also interested in trying a sticky base coat, and Sephora’s is readily available to me, unlike Orly or CND. Read more!
