That Scary Blush

Nars Exhibit A Full Product Photo

Let me preface this by saying that I love neutrals, in clothing and in makeup. Makeup artists always steer me towards colour because folks with dark skin can pull of vibrant shades a bit easier than those with very light skin. So maybe it’s the rebel in me that makes me shy away from colour, or maybe it’s just because I feel best in shades of brown, bronze, and beige. In terms of blush, I love my plummy pinks and peaches as much as the next makeup-obsessed human. But since I first saw it, I’ve always been equal parts intrigued and terrified of one blush in particular: Nars Exhibit A. Read more!

The Sheer Base for Drier Skin

NARS Tinted Moisturizer Bottle

I love skincare – more than I love makeup. What’s more, I like the way my skin looks – I invest in glow-inducing products and I want to let that shine through most of the time. That’s why I like sheer foundations and BB creams so much; I can get a little bit of coverage just to even things out, but still can see the healthy glow and texture to my skin. Read more…

I’ve been itching to talk about my favourite highlighters. And like all good things, they come in threes.

My YSL Collection

YSL collection uncapped

Usually, when I spend $40+ on a beauty product, it’s a palette of some sort.

But in recent years, I’ve been occasionally spending more than I’d care to admit on luxury lip products that make MAC lipsticks look cheap.

YSL beauty products are about as high end luxury as I’ll go, and I fully acknowledge that the prices are ridiculous. We’re talking around $40 for a lipstick, and $50 for the famous Touche Éclat. Read more…

The Early-Class Makeup Edit

School Makeup Essentials

I’ve found myself in a bit of a makeup rut lately, largely because I usually do my makeup around 7:30 every morning. I’m so not a morning person that I usually don’t feel particularly creative or adventurous. Read more!

The Matte BB Cream

Tarte BB tube

Modeled after the Asian skincare phenomenon, Western BB creams have been popping out of the woodwork over the past few years. Largely, though, I’ve been disappointed with them for three main reasons. Read those reasons.

The $4 Blush

ELF HD Blush Superstar

There’s something about a super-affordable makeup brand that frequently gets products right that makes me feel weak in the knees.

That’s probably an unhealthy reaction, but that’s okay – I’m going with it. Read more!

A Does-It-All Primer That Won’t Break the Bank

Garnier Primer

We beauty lovers live in a pore-obsessed world. I always laugh at products that claim to eliminate pores because pores themselves are so essential; without them we’d probably overheat and die or something like that. Read more!

What’s On My Face #1 | New Things

womf1 stuff

Womf 1 face copy

Some days, I think, “Wow, my makeup looks pretty nice today. I wish I were doing a blog post so everyone could see, but I don’t have anything to post about!” I’ve recently realized how silly that is; isn’t showing you pretty makeup enough?

So I decided to start a What’s On My Face (WOMF?) series. This first post I’m dedicating to a few new things that I’ve picked up over the past month or so and haven’t had a chance to blog about just yet. Read on to see what they are!

Nars Blush in ‘413 Blkr’

Nars 413 Blkr Blush pan

When the 413 Blkr collection came out to celebrate their opening of a new flagship store (I believe that’s the situation), I wasn’t all that interested. I felt like the 413 Blkr blush* in particular I could dupe in my collection and didn’t really need another of. Read more!
