My YSL Collection

YSL collection uncapped

Usually, when I spend $40+ on a beauty product, it’s a palette of some sort.

But in recent years, I’ve been occasionally spending more than I’d care to admit on luxury lip products that make MAC lipsticks look cheap.

YSL beauty products are about as high end luxury as I’ll go, and I fully acknowledge that the prices are ridiculous. We’re talking around $40 for a lipstick, and $50 for the famous Touche Éclat. Read more…

The Underrated Lip Balm

Clinique Lip Balm closedClinique Lip Balm open

When it comes to lip products, I’m a little high-maintenance. Or, rather, my lips are. There are very few products that agree with them and don’t make them flake and peel like crazy. Even so-called hydrating formulas don’t work for me. As such, it’s remarkably difficult to find lip balms that work. When I do, I have to share. Read more!

Benefit’s LolliTint

LolliBalm Closeup

We all know I’m super picky when it comes to lip products. (Exhibits A, B, and C.)

But here’s the thing: I love the idea of a lip and cheek stain. Love it. But so far, I’ve yet to find one that’s blendable enough that I can blend it out on my cheeks without leaving it looking splotchy. Benefit’s Tints are no exception: they set too quickly, making it incredibly difficult to get a good blend going no matter what tools I use to do it. Read more!

Jack Black Moisture Therapy Lip Balm in “Black Tea and Blackberry”

Jack Black Lip Balm

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you know how I feel about lip balms.

I’m very picky about them. Recently, I’ve discovered that I don’t like a lip balm that’s a cream formula; that would explain why I didn’t get along with the Dior Crème de Rose or the Nuxe Rêve de Miel.

Gel or jellyish formulas, however, I’m good with. That explains why I love the Smith’s Rosebud Lip Salve so much. As much as I say that I’m never going to try another lip balm again, I can’t help it. So here I am. Read more!

Soap & Glory A Great Kisser Lip Balm in “Vanilla Bean”

Soap & Glory A Great Kisser lip balm

I’m a bit of a sucker for a nice tinted lip balm. Soap & Glory cosmetics rarely disappoint, so when I saw this I snapped it up. That and I kind of love vanilla. Read more!

Attack of the Jumbo Lip Pencils

Jumbo Pencils

One of the biggest trends in modern beauty is the jumbo lip pencil.

It usually sits somewhere between a conventional lip pencil, a lipstick, a stain, and a balm. Some are shinier than others, some are more pigmented, and some stain long after the balmy finish has worn off.

I took a look at my jumbo pencil collection and realized that I have quite a few from a number of different brands. I decided that this presents an extraordinary comparison opportunity. Not only that, but I’ve done a lot of the comparing in my head already because I value some over others for particular reasons.

I’ll quit dawdling and get on with the comparison. (Skip to the end for the TL;DR.) Read more!

My 2013 Beauty Favourites!

With the end of the year comes about a million end-of-year posts. Although I’m away from most of my beauty products and all of my photography equipment, I didn’t want to miss out! So I decided to compile a list of some of my favourites from 2013. This was originally going to be one post, but it snowballed and I’ve decided to make it two: beauty and non-beauty favourites.

New at the Drugstore!: Revlon Matte & Lacquer Balms

Revlon Matte and Lacquer Balms

As a fan of the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains, I was excited to hear they were releasing more jumbo pencil format lip products: Revlon Matte Balms and Lacquer Balms. These ones don’t claim to be a stain, but their big draw is that there are new finishes: a velvety matte and a super lustrous lacquer.

The Ultimate Lip Balm?

Smith's Strawberry Lip Balm

So my Ultimate Lip Balm Hunt has been stagnant and unsuccessful for a few years, as illustrated by the Dior Crème de Rose flop. However, the balm I’ve been using for the last few years has been working for me. I suppose that begs the question of why I’m on the hunt for a better one… I like lip balm, okay?

Review: Dior Crème de Rose Smoothing Plumping Lip Balm (& omg The Walking Dead)

Creme de Rose Box

So I feel like I should preface and justify this purchase. For as long as I can remember, I have been on the hunt for the ultimate, Holy-Grail-status lip balm. I’m big into lip balm and always have been, and gradually that search took me out of the drugstore and into the realm of higher end balms.

Dior Crème de Rose has been, in my mind, the crème de la crème of luxe lip balms, and with a $29 price tag, I was expecting big things. I had saved for this lip balm for a bit and then, on top of that, I used my Sephora VIB Sale discount to get 20% off – not a ton, but better than nothing, and knowing that I got a bit of a deal helps to ease the sting a bit.
