Sigma as a brand essentially got famous by riding on MAC’s coattails: replicating their brushes and doing it at a third of the price. I’m not necessarily saying that that’s a bad thing. From what I’ve tried, MAC brushes are lovely, but they are undoubtedly super expensive (thus why I own two of them). Sigma brushes, on the other hand, are much more affordable, and I have an entire set that I use daily.

Because of the exorbitant price of MAC brushes, Sigma carved out a niche for themselves in the market by doing dupes of MAC brushes for much, much cheaper. When I first delved into the world of matte shadow, I was pretty intimidated. I soon discovered that the matte eye look gives you some new options, though. Using matte eyeshadow to create a look means that the shapes you create will be the focus, since there’ll be no glitz to distract the eye. When it comes to brushes, I’m a bit of a rebel, in the sense that I don’t always use them for what they’re designated for. What can I say? I don’t like to be told what to do.

In fact, that would probably be my biggest tip: if you purchase a brush that is designed to be used for one thing but you think it might work better for something else, go for it! Makeup is a trial and error deal. Figure out what works best for you!

These brushes work well for me. Contrary to popular belief, in the brush world, MAC is not the be and end all. As you’ll see, I only have one MAC brush, and most of (all?) my other brushes are a lot less expensive than their MAC equivalents. They work for me!
