Fall TV Picks

Fall TV Picks

I watch too much TV.

Seriously. It’s to the point where I have to write in my planner what I intend to watch and when. But it isn’t my fault! There are too many good TV shows out there these days. Here’s my roundup of the ones I’ve been enjoying most this premiere season. Read more!

My 2013 Non-Beauty/Geeky Favourites!

This was a great year to be alive in the geekosphere, friends. I read lots, watched lots, and fangirled lots. So without further delay, let’s hop to it!

  • Favourite book: 2013 was an excellent reading year for me, so it’s hard for me to pick just one book. I adored Neil Gaiman’s American Gods, as I’ve said before. I also started the Song of Ice and Fire series, which I would recommend to anyone who likes scifi-fantasy-Tolkienian books. Read more!
  • Long Live the Bold Lip: How to Make Bold Lipstick Last All Day (+ The Walking Dead mid-season finale death[s])

Red Lipstick on Dark NW 45 Skin

I remember when I bought my first bold lipstick.

I had just gotten into Mad Men. Enough said.

It was three or four years ago, when I was 16 or 17. I went to my local MAC counter and purchased MAC Red lipstick and Cherry lipliner after receiving a mini-lesson from a makeup artist on how to apply it.

Of course, I fiddled with it myself at home, and like to think that I’ve got a pretty great system going on that keeps my lipstick going strong all day.

    But wait, there’s more!

Review: Shiseido Facial Cotton (+ The Walking Dead)

    Shiseido Facial Cotton

I used to buy cotton pads from the drugstore for about $3 every month. I use facial cotton pads daily for my Bioderma and toner. On average I would use about 2-3 pads for each task because they would fall apart, leave their cottony residue on my face/eyes, etc. This contributed to how quickly I would go through these pads.

I started using the Shiseido cotton after a friend who works for the company convinced me that it was literally the best. However, I was skeptical. $11 cotton? But the way she sold it to me was that because I would only be using 1 piece of cotton per task, I would end up buying the cotton once every three months, which works out to roughly what it did when I was buying drugstore cotton.

Taking It Off (+ The Walking Dead made me sleepy and confused)

I don’t wear a lot of makeup every day. But when I do, it’s very important to me that I get it all off.

On top of that, I don’t like oil-based makeup removers. Having oil on my eyelids makes me feel like I’m a baby that’s just been born, fighting through uterus-goo (ew, but at least I’m honest, okay?).

That’s why, when cleansing waters entered onto the skincare scene, I jumped for joy.

Review: Dior Crème de Rose Smoothing Plumping Lip Balm (& omg The Walking Dead)

    Creme de Rose Box

So I feel like I should preface and justify this purchase. For as long as I can remember, I have been on the hunt for the ultimate, Holy-Grail-status lip balm. I’m big into lip balm and always have been, and gradually that search took me out of the drugstore and into the realm of higher end balms.

Dior Crème de Rose has been, in my mind, the crème de la crème of luxe lip balms, and with a $29 price tag, I was expecting big things. I had saved for this lip balm for a bit and then, on top of that, I used my Sephora VIB Sale discount to get 20% off – not a ton, but better than nothing, and knowing that I got a bit of a deal helps to ease the sting a bit.

Review: Formula X for Sephora (& comments on last week’s The Walking Dead)

Formula X for Sephora in "Curiosity"

(Note: The Walking Dead spoilers are at the end of this post)

This new polish line has been hyped like crazy in the beauty blogging community. There was hype around it even before it came out, when Sephora put all their Sephora by OPI polishes on clearance and replaced their displays with teasers that something new was coming. And I got excited. I was never all that crazy for the Sephora by OPI polishes – I found they chipped quickly. Not so with the new ones.

Enter Formula X. It comes in an overwhelming array of colours, including some really unique glitters and topcoats. (Srsly. I spent a good ten minutes circling the display like a crazy before I settled on this one.) Each regular polish retails for $13, while glitters, topcoats and duochromes are $15. Some treatments, sprays, and nail strengtheners sell for $17. It’s a whole line of nailcare. Serious business.
