Review: Nails Inc ‘Victoria’ (+ omg Path of Exile)

Nails Inc Victoria

I recently left a job I had for six months where I had to wear only natural-looking nail polish. And don’t get me wrong, I love a good neutral. Beiges, pinks, french manicures — lovely. But sometimes I need to spice things up, you know?

There’s just something about dark nails that looks so polished — forgive the pun — and chic. It’s edgy but classy and because dark nails have been in for a few years, I think they’ve become quite classic.

My Favourite Makeup Brushes!

Brushes brushes brushes.
Brushes in Pot

When it comes to brushes, I’m a bit of a rebel, in the sense that I don’t always use them for what they’re designated for. What can I say? I don’t like to be told what to do.

In fact, that would probably be my biggest tip: if you purchase a brush that is designed to be used for one thing but you think it might work better for something else, go for it! Makeup is a trial and error deal. Figure out what works best for you!

These brushes work well for me. Contrary to popular belief, in the brush world, MAC is not the be and end all. As you’ll see, I only have one MAC brush, and most of (all?) my other brushes are a lot less expensive than their MAC equivalents. They work for me!

Review: Essie ‘Penny Talk’

Essie Penny Talk Nail Swatch

Oh, Essie Penny Talk. How I wanted to love you.

When this polish was released, it was hyped up as the perfect rose gold polish. I, like the rest of the planet, love rose gold. Naturally, I chased it down. In a ton of different drugstores. Until I found it.

Choirs of angels sang that day, my friends.

Book Recommendations and Non-Recommendations!

I really enjoy reading. However, as a university student, I’m constantly obliged to read things that I wouldn’t necessarily choose on my own. This means I’m usually drowning in reading materials to the point that where I do sit down to read, it isn’t usually for fun.

I’ve developed some ways to get around this.

Meow! The Basic Cat-Eye (& thoughts on Brian Griffin)

Tools for Cat Eye

Exotic. Elegant. Elusive.

The perfect cat-eye is a tricky thing to master.

I’ve been practicing mine for about four years now, and I’ve just recently become super comfortable with it. Even so, I do mess it up sometimes, at which point I aggressively take a makeup wipe to my face to try to erase all evidence of it.

Deal Alert!: Shoppers Drug Mart BOGO Nail Polishes

Shoppers Drug Mart Coupon

There’s an awesome-o flash sale-type dealy going on at Shoppers Drug Mart on Wednesday November 27 from 5-8pm.

When you bring this coupon, their nail polish is Buy One Get One Free!

Shoppers does this every so often, which I think is pretty fab. They haven’t listed which brands are and aren’t included as yet, although it does say it excludes nail tools, gel polishes and kits, and prestige nail polishes. One can only hope that “prestige polishes” means the likes of Dior and Clinique, because I’d like to stock up on some Essie for Christmas presents and there’s a Nails Inc polish I’ve been eyeing!

You can bet I’ll be there. I plan to hit up two SDM stores on Wednesday because why not okay? Certain places might have more new collections and such.

Hurray for BOGO polish!

Review: Shiseido Facial Cotton (+ The Walking Dead)

Shiseido Facial Cotton

I used to buy cotton pads from the drugstore for about $3 every month. I use facial cotton pads daily for my Bioderma and toner. On average I would use about 2-3 pads for each task because they would fall apart, leave their cottony residue on my face/eyes, etc. This contributed to how quickly I would go through these pads.

I started using the Shiseido cotton after a friend who works for the company convinced me that it was literally the best. However, I was skeptical. $11 cotton? But the way she sold it to me was that because I would only be using 1 piece of cotton per task, I would end up buying the cotton once every three months, which works out to roughly what it did when I was buying drugstore cotton.

New at the Drugstore! Maybelline Colour Elixir in “Captivating Carnation”

Maybelline Colour Elixir in Captivating Carnation

Every so often the drugstore brands release an arsenal of new lip products. They always come out in the US first, which results in me hearing about them online and stalking my local drugstores like a crazy person waiting for them to arrive here in Canada.

I got super excited when I saw these at my local Shoppers Drug Mart. They’re the Maybelline Colour Elixir lip glosses. And they’re pretty great.

The Chevron Manicure (a.k.a DIY Nail Stickers) (+ American Horror Story does it again…)

Chevron Nails

Chevron manicures aren’t new. I’ve been doing mine this way for probably about three years… But I still think they’re cute and relevant. Idk, okay?

You can use whatever colours you want, and this tutorial also includes ideas of other types of nail stickers you can make. Whenever I wear this, I invariably get a few people asking me how I did it. It’s super easy, so let’s get to it!

Review: Marc Jacobs Dot & Travalo Atomizer

Marc Jacobs Dot

I love Marc Jacobs fragrances. They’re youthful but sophisticated, unique but trendy. I have quite a few of them, although that’s a tale for another time.
